Software Design- Tracking Progress
Background
Action Planning, or Impact Planning, is a product suite encompassing the ability to:
- Create/Edit/Delete an action plan as well as export multiple action plans based on search results.
- Define and search for Best Practice action plans.
- Monitor the status and participation of action planning including the ability to receive reports through Impact Plan Participation Report tool.
Objectives
The following objectives were identified for the action plan creation process:
- Simplify the process of creating an action plan
- Allow users to create a plan without requiring assistance
- Ensure that the plan can be created in under 5 minutes
Feedback
Feedback received from users and manufacturing professionals was taken into account during the design process. Manufacturing professionals found the existing process too conceptual, too complicated for smaller clients, and too much work to create plans. Users identified that tasks were good for more sophisticated managers.
General Suggestions
The following general suggestions were incorporated into the design of the action plan creation process:
- Provide best practices for the content of the action plan
- Include a “best practice plan” for users to view
- Provide shared templates for commonly used plans
- Allow managers to duplicate pinned plans for reuse.
We started by documenting the most to least essential things that we want to include on this tool. We felt that it was essential to understand what exactly our users’ (manager’s) common behaviors were with the entire platform and what they thought was missing.
Action Planning Userflow
Action planning process
The goal was to simplify the process of creating an action plan and put more emphasis on follow up and tracking its progress. Flow 1 showcases, a 1 page accordion style form that doesn’t redirect to a different page for each next step. While Flow 2 is sketched keeping in mind the idea of giving a first time user more context into what each step of this process means. The 3rd flow is similar to a wizard style.

Final Dashboard features, Plan Creation Process
Our team’s vision for developing a new process and functionalities was to ensure the success of the manager in their role. To achieve this, we relied heavily on user interviews and feedback from clients, stakeholders, and partners. The final mockups were based on this research and were implemented in Q3 of 2022 on Gallup Access. Unfortunately, due to privacy reasons, I am only able to showcase 10% of the final designs.
